SYNOPSIS

A holiday classic from the writer of the musical theatre classic, The Music Man!, and based on the movie of the same name, Miracle on 34th Street features a book and score by none other than Meredith Willson.

Filled with humor, spectacle and such beloved songs as "Pinecones and Hollyberries," "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" and "My State, My Kansas," this joyous, heartwarming musical is pure family entertainment. A star-vehicle for a female actress that features great roles for children, the show is a cast- and crowd-pleaser.

Main Characters

Kris Kringle (Able to play a man of 50-60): A kind, gentle, and warm old man who genuinely believes he is Santa Claus. He spreads authentic goodwill, challenges corporate greed, and melts cynical hearts.

Doris Walker (20’s to 30’s): The special events coordinator for Macy’s Department Store. She is a hard-working, cynical, and recently divorced career woman who tries to raise her daughter without romantic or "silly" notions. (Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano)

Fred Gaily (20’s to 30’s): A handsome former military captain transitioning into civilian life. He is smart, warm, hopeful, and acts as the neighbor who tries to win over Doris by charming Susan. (Vocal range: Baritone / Tenor)

Susan Walker (6 to 10): Doris's daughter. She is wise beyond her years, practical, self-sufficient, and initially shielded from imagination until Kris changes her perspective. (Vocal range: Child / High)

Supporting Characters

• Marvin Shellhammer (18 to any): Doris’s jittery and loyal assistant at Macy’s who helps manage the store's promotional events. (Vocal range: Baritone)

• R.H. Macy (Able to play 30 or above): The ambitious head of Macy's department store who eventually learns from Kris that customer care matters more than sheer profit.

• Mr. or Ms. Sawyer (Able to play 30 or above): The insecure and officious vocational guidance counselor/psychologist at Macy's who clashes with Kris Kringle and recommends sending him to Bellevue.

• Mr. Gimbel: (Able to play 30 or above): The rival owner of Gimbel's department store who later adopts Macy's philosophy of customer-first generosity.

• Miss Crookshank (18 to any): Doris’s supportive and no-nonsense secretary or coworker.

• Tommy Mara Jr. (6-10) The prosecutor’s son.

• Tommy Mara Sr. (20 to 40) The Prosecutor.
